Can I keep a Mexican Fan Palm from getting huge?

I have a baby Mexican Fan Palm (trunk is about 12 or 18in) and want to see if I can keep it from getting much taller (no more than 15 ft).

Since I’m no good at horticulture, willing potting keep it from getting much taller? Can I pot it and put the pot in the ground?

I’d love to have your ideas, I’d rather not get rid of this plant just because I misread the label!

Since I’m no good at horticulture, willing potting keep it from getting much taller? Can I pot it with a mesh at the bottom of the pot with some stones over the mesh to keep the roots contained and put the pot in the ground?
