How does a 40 'Italian Cypress grow if cut back to 30'?
Them become increasingly fuzzy at the top and not growing straight. The branches are hung.
Indiscriminte pruning is called "filling" and is a very bad thing for the trees so if you really want to delete both make sure it is done correctly. So if you have an irrigation system, try to alter it so they are less frequent watering. The best way to trees water is to water deeply (to a depth of 2 feet or 3) infrequently. Wait until the soil is dry, then water again deeply. Depending on where you live (and season) the soil can dry in a week, or it may take a month. To see if the soil is dry, stick a metal rod on the floor, if the soil is moist the top with ease. If you have irrigation, and is altered with irrigation, trees may respond positively and not have to prune. Note that the elimination 10 feet (25%) of the crown of life from the top of a cypress is likely to leave quite large wounds that could make the tree susceptible to insects and diseases.
